Pyongyang, November 7 (KCNA) — A national workshop for the development of organic agriculture sector co-sponsored by the Pyongyang International Information Center for New Technology and Economy and the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement (IFOAM), took place at the Pyongyang Center for Cultural Exchange with Foreign Countries from November 5 to 7.
Present there were officials of ministries and national institutions and officials and researchers in the field of science, agricultural experts and members of the delegation of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement.

Opening addresses were made at the workshop.

Kim Jin Bom, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and director of the Pyongyang International Information Center for New Technology and Economy, said that the workshop served as an important occasion in providing a scientific foundation for the development of organic agriculture.

He stressed that farming methods suited to the actual conditions of the country are being actively introduced into the field of agriculture of the DPRK under the deep concern of the party and the state.

Andre Frederick Leu, head of the delegation of the IFOAM, referred to the importance of developing organic agriculture which can ensure a high yield.

He expressed the belief that close cooperation would be effected during the workshop.

The workshop involved lectures titled “High yield and food security in organic agriculture,” etc.

Speeches were made.

The participants in the workshop exchanged successes and experiences gained in the field of organic agriculture.
